  • What is the dermamelan® method and how does it work?

dermamelan® is the medical depigmenting method that efficiently and progressively eliminates spots by acting on the accumulation of pigment in the skin and on the root of the problem, providing a comprehensive and long-lasting outcome.

The treatment consists in a first session in consultation and a home treatment that lasts 4 months.

  • in consultation phase.

Following a proper diagnosis, the treatment begins with a first session in the medical consultation. The professional applies two masks with an intensive depigmenting action.

  • at home phase.

Continue the treatment following a home guideline. It consists in applying complementary cosmetic products for 4 months with a continuous depigmenting action and long-term regulation of pigment overproduction.

  • Consultation + treatment

The Acnelan Peel is an intensive clinical treatment for acne-prone and problematic skin. It combines a clinical treatment with at home care. Together they target the triggers of acne and prevent recurrence.

  • Dermamelan® melasma treatment

Dermamelan involves two stages of treatment that take 6 to 12 months to complete:

    The in-clinic phase
Following a proper diagnosis of your pigmentation concern, your treatment program begins with a chemical peel and home skincare preparation. At your next appointment, a mask that provides the intensive depigmenting action is applied. The patient removes this mask at home after the time indicated by the clinic staff, which can be between 8-12 hours, depending on the severity of a patient’s skin and skin type. The treatment is comfortable and takes only 45 minutes at our clinic. Patients may continue their daily routine afterwards, although some swelling, redness and peeling can be expected.

  • Dermamelan® Home Treatment

This phase involves strict adherence to a home skincare regime for six months using the Dermamelan skin care products, which helps to treat the root of the problem and gain a comprehensive and long-lasting result. This ensures that the maximum results from Dermamelan can be achieved. During this time, you will have regular appointments with our dermal clinician to monitor your skin condition, providing you with an ongoing, personalised skincare routine as prescribed by our clinicians.

Frequently asked questions

What is dermamelan®?

dermamelan® is the world’s leading medical and clinically-proven depigmentation treatment. Its unique and innovative formula safely and efficiently removes hyperpigmentation and prevents its reappearance for a long-lasting outcome. It differs from its little sister treatment Cosmelan by being more potent and effective and is only available under the supervision of a medical practitioner.

How does dermamelan® work to control melanin synthesis and treat melasma?

dermamelan® corrects and regulates melanin synthesis, both within melanocytes and through the main melanogenesis pathways. It targets key pigmentation elements, crucial for managing severe conditions like melasma.

dermamelan® inhibits melanin production, with ingredients that decrease its formation and aid in its removal, leading to reduced hyperpigmentation and brighter, even-toned skin.

How does dermamelan® achieve depigmentation, and what were its in vitro effects on melanocytes?

dermamelan® methodhas been shown to be a depigmenting method withclinical and cellular efficacy, that inhibits specificallytyrosinase and acts in the different cell processes involved in melanogenesis. Studiesin vitrohave shown that the cultures ofmelanocytes treated with dermamelan® show a reduction of dendricity and a reduction of total melanin of 89%

Is dermamelan® safe for all skin types?

dermamelan® is generally safe for all skin types, but it is always recommended to consult with a skincare professional before starting any new treatment. People with sensitive skin may experience some irritation or redness, but this can usually be managed with proper skincare and by following the recommended application guidelines.

Any risks and side effects?

Dermamelan is a minimally invasive topical treatment that does not prevent you from following your daily life. During the initial phase and after applying the Dermamelan treatment mask, the skin may become irritated, swollen or show redness. These symptoms are a normal and expected reaction and will ease within the first two weeks. During the home phase, it is common to experience peeling and sensitivity, which lessen with the application of the recommended home skincare products from the clinic.

How long does it take to see results from dermamelan®?

Results from dermamelan® can vary depending on the severity of the hyperpigmentation and the individual's skin type. However, most people start to see visible improvements within the first few weeks of treatment. Full results can take up to 3-6 months, depending on the individual's skin condition and adherence to the recommended home care regimen.

What are the active ingredients in dermamelan®?

dermamelan® contains a unique blend of active ingredients, including kojic acid, phytic acid, ascorbic acid, arbutin, and retinol, among others. These ingredients work together to regulate melanin synthesis, reduce the appearance of existing hyperpigmentation, and prevent the formation of new spots.

The complex of active ingredients and molecules in dermamelan® includes melaphenone® and [syn]pigmenTarget®. Melaphenone® is a new tyrosinase inhibitor with its own molecular design, providing a high specificity and safety in the inhibition of tyrosinase.

[syn]pigmenTarget® is a unique combination of three selected active ingredients (ferulic acid, retinol, and diosmin) formulated at optimum concentrations for a high-synergism therapeutic response in the interaction with key pigmentation targets.

What is the home treatment procedure for dermamelan®?

Home treatment method for dermamelan® involves a continuous depigmenting action to reduce hyperpigmentation progressively during the treatment. After 48/72 hours of removing the masks, the home regimen starts, which includes twice-daily application of the dermamelan® treatment followed by melan recovery and mesoprotech® melan 130 pigment control during daily applications. The home regimen also exerts a regulating action in the long term inside the melanocyte, reducing melanin synthesis and acting on the origin of hyperpigmentation to control reappearance of the spot. Compliance with the home regimen is essential to meet the depigmenting objective in the short and long term.

What is the recommended home care regimen for dermamelan®?

The recommended home care regimen for dermamelan® includes twice-daily application of the dermamelan® treatment followed by melan recovery and mesoprotech® melan 130 pigment control during daily applications. It is also important to use an oil-removing solution to clean the skin before applying the treatment and to avoid contact with sensitive areas. The use of a hydrogel mask can also help to maximize the action of the active ingredients.

What is the best time of the year to perform the treatment?

dermamelan can be performed anytime if patients practice adequate sun avoidance and use a high SPF sunscreen.
